9-10 all-stars
While Moreland and Sunnyvale Metro battled for the D44 flag in the 9-10 division, the Cupertino National all-stars proved to be a team with much heart and tenacity.
CN won its opener 8-4 over Sunnyvale National, but was humbled in the next round by Los Altos 19-0. The CN all-stars bounced back with fight against Santa Clara Homestead, before losing a donnybrook of an elimination game 16-14.
Alvin Tian went 3 for 3 with two RBIs in the win over Sunnyvale National. Winning pitcher Willy Liou helped himself with two hits and two RBIs, and John Damozonio ripped a pair of doubles. Tate Boynton and Brandon Ng had two hits apiece in the win, and Lucas Wheeler and David Heydinger chipped in with singles.
Rhys Sharp’s two hits and Josh Quinn’s RBI single paced Sunnyvale.
Quinn. Luke Martinez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing home Joseph Aguilera with another Sunnyvale run.
In the slugfest with Homestead, Cupertino National went scoreless for the first three innings, but rallied for four in the fourth six in the fifth and four more in the sixth.
CN went ahead 14-7 in the top of the fifth, but Homestead fired back with nine more runs and held on for the win.
Leading hitters for Cupertino were Liou and Damozonio with four hits apiece and Ng and Tian with three each. Boynton delivered a three-run triple in the sixth.
